Happy Birthday Baby Abigail!

Chicago Portrait Photographer

I have had the pleasure of shooting this sweet girl since she was just a few days old. Hard to believe she is already 1!!  She gets cuter and cuter, more smiley and animated every time I see her...such a joy to be able to capture these milestones along the way!  Thanks to her Mom and Dad for allowing me to document this first year!

Portraits in the Park!

Chicago Portrait Photographer

So great seeing this sweet family again! I've had the privilege of capturing these three since Bobby was just turning 6 months old.  Now he is a very active toddler and full of personality!  We spent the morning shooting at Bobby's favorite park...a few shots from our session!

Fall Portraits -- Bennett Family

Chicago Portrait Photographer

A quick look at this gorgeous family from our session a little over a week ago.  We got it in the very last weekend the trees were holding their leaves...and it was beautiful!

These little boys were such rockstars the entire shoot.  I usually plan to build in some 'warm up' time...a buffer before we really get 'down to it' to allow little ones time to get more comfortable with the stranger with the giant camera.  Not necessary with these kiddos.  They were so outgoing and fun!

Such a good looking clan---they could have shown up in bags and would have looked smashing. But mom did a fantastic job with the styling! I adore when clients incorporate pops of color!

Our sunshine...our star...our everything

It's crazy to me that it's been a year since I wrote this post welcoming Vela Carina to the world and sharing the very special story behind her name.

When you are expecting your first child, a very common comment you hear from the masses is that 'there's just no way to explain the amount of love you will feel for your child.'  Nothing compares to it.  There's no way to prepare yourself.  I took all these words of wisdom in to the best of my ability.  But everyone was right. You simply cannot prepare yourself for the havoc that tiny little person will wreak on your body/mind/soul.  The best kind of havoc...but seriously...it's like everything that was once your reality is put into a jar...and then a whole bunch of glitter is added to it.  And then someone shakes the hell out of the jar.  The result is this swirling mass of sparkling beauty.  And even though all the swirling around makes you crazy dizzy...and a little bit slow... (and in need of a nap 100% of the time)...you don't mind the madness...the sleep deprivation...the fact that you have black roots and blonde hair because you haven't highlighted your hair in 5 months because you don't have time for you.  None of that makes the slightest difference.  All you notice is all the sparkling goodness.

When Vela was only a few days old I remember sitting in her nursery...rocking her to sleep...and weeping into her burp rag because I could already picture myself at her wedding. The fast forward button was hit the moment she entered this world and all I wanted was to find a way to press pause.  All of the things everyone had said were true, to the zillionth millionth trillionth degree.  I was talking with one of my best gals about it in the weeks following her birth, and to this day I think she summed up my feelings the best way I can think to describe it...

For me...in some ways, the feeling I had in the weeks and days following Vela's arrival---almost felt more like heart break.  You realize just how amazing a miracle it is that you have this life to love and care for.  And then you can't help but think that ... what if she needs protecting some day and I'm not there to protect her?  Or she needs something that I simply can't provide her...? Sheesh.  My heart was (is) exploding for so many reasons.

I suppose all I can do, or any of us can do...is put faith in God that he will watch over our tiny treasures.    So that's what I'm going with.

Vela Carina you are our little star...our sunshine...the greatest gift God has given us.

Over her bday weekend (July 21st) we had a big old party to celebrate her 1st birthday.  Nautical theme of course...a nod to her name and the story behind it. It was such a special celebration complete with lots of family and friends...good food and many tiny tots running around.  It was perfect.

One big happy family

Naperville Portrait Photographer

A few shots from a family session in Naperville.  The rain tried to ruin our fun but thankfully we had beautiful canopy of trees to keep us nice and dry!

Getting the whole family together can be so tough....aligning schedules alone is a challenge let alone getting everyone coordinated in such a nice (but not too matchy-matchy) fashion...hats off to Megan for getting this organized!

My camera settings weren't ready for an action shot so these images are blurry (which kind of works in this case)...anyone who knows me knows how much I love to dance...so kiddos busting a move = one of my favorite things!

It's 'bout time

Chicago Portrait Photographer

Given that it's May...I am thrilled that Mother Nature might be gracing us with ...drum roll...SPRING!!!?!  Oh how I hope the warm(er) weather is here to stay.  Outside of the excitement of shedding all the layers and putting the boots away...it also means it's time for outdoor portrait sessions!  Finally!

A few out-takes from a session at the Lincoln Park Lily Pond a few weeks back.  I had the privilege of shooting this beautiful family last fall.  So sweet to see how much little Bobby has grown!

Special day for Baby V

Since just about all of my portrait sessions are done outdoors...I get a nice little break this time of year.  It's a welcome bit of downtime after crazy fall portrait season and then the holidays!  Also gives me time to devout to my babe and her daddy and our little fur baby.  This past weekend we celebrated a very special day for my little angel...her baptism.  It was a wonderful day shared with family and friends.

And of course we started the day capturing how beautiful she looked in her baptismal gown :)
